Interest in FMT has grown significantly in recent years, and research is expanding our understanding of the potential of the gut microbiome. This naturally begs the question: <strong>where is fecal transplantation heading and what can we expect in the future?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is a fecal transplant today?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fecal transplantation is a method of restoring the intestinal microbiota by transferring purified fecal material from a healthy donor to a patient. FMT currently has the strongest scientific evidence in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>recurrent infection with <em>Clostridioides difficile<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>severe forms of intestinal dysbiosis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>conditions associated with disturbed microbiome balance<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The method is applied under strictly defined indications and under medical supervision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">From \u201ealternative method\u201c to standard of care<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A decade ago, fecal transplantation was seen as a last resort.
