Unimed Medical Centre is launching a new clinical trial for patients with asthma. The trial is a Phase 4 trial and compares two active drug therapies that have already been approved for use.
The clinical trial aims to compare two already approved active treatments in patients with asthma and to gather further data on their use.
Unlike trials in which a new medicine is tested in humans for the first time, in Phase 4 the medicine has already received regulatory approval and is in use in clinical practice. These trials can provide additional information on the safety, efficacy and use of the treatment in wider groups of patients.
There is no placebo group in this study.
Participants will be divided into two groups, in which two active drug therapies are administered. This is known as active comparator study – one medicinal product is compared with another medicinal product which also contains an active therapeutic ingredient.
This type of design allows a direct comparison to be made between two active treatments in suitable patients.
Phase 4 takes place following the regulatory approval of a medicinal product. It forms part of the ongoing monitoring of medicinal products and can help to gather further data on their use in real-world clinical practice.
This means that the medicines used in this study have already been approved, and the study itself aims to gather further scientific data by comparing the two treatments.
Suitable participants are identified according to criteria set out in advance in the study protocol.
If you have asthma and would like to find out whether you are eligible to take part, please contact the team at the Unimed Medical Centre.
Following the initial contact, the medical team can provide further information about the study and assess whether the necessary eligibility criteria have been met.
Even when a medicine has already been approved, gathering further scientific data remains important. Clinical trials can help researchers compare different therapeutic approaches and expand our understanding of their safety and efficacy.
For patients, participation in a clinical trial is voluntary and takes place in accordance with the conditions set out in the protocol and the applicable ethical and regulatory requirements.
If you have asthma and are interested in taking part in the new clinical trial, please contact the Unimed Medical Centre for further information.
Our team will be able to explain the main terms of the study to you and let you know whether you may meet the pre-defined eligibility criteria.
Important: Participation in a clinical trial is voluntary. Suitable participants are identified on the basis of the criteria set out in the specific protocol, and full details of the procedures, benefits and potential risks are provided before a decision to participate is made.
