There are only a few approved treatments for vitiligo, and there is a significant need for new, effective therapies with an acceptable safety profile, particularly for patients with more extensive involvement.

A clinical trial involving a new drug has commenced at the Unimed Medical Centre in Sevlievo – a high-affinity human monoclonal antibody that blocks the activation and proliferation of autoreactive T-cells, thereby preventing the destruction of melanocytes and enabling repigmentation. Clinical experience to date indicates a good safety profile.

The medication is convenient for patients – subcutaneous injections once every three months.
